I received this question from a PlanGuru customer the other day and wanted to share it for all to see.
"During the Advanced Reporting Add-in webinar I learned that you cannot use the cashflow data from PG. Is this something that is planned to be a part of the add-in in the future? Would these updates require a fee?"
Here was my response
"Valued PlanGuru Customer,
This is something we plan to roll out in an updated version of the Advanced Reporting Add-In. I’m thrilled with the response and feedback we’ve received up to this point, which only strengthens our commitment to this offering. As part of that commitment we will be rolling out functionality enhancements as they become available.
With regards to fees. Right now this is a bit of a gray area, so all I can tell you is how I feel about this. I do not want to charge customers for any “updates”. From a development standpoint enhancements to the Advanced Reporting Add-In will follow a similar rhythm to that of our core product. Enhancements released within a given version of PlanGuru are likely to be incremental, evolutionary if you will (these are similar to our regular free maintenance updates, they may not be as frequent but we will never charge for them). Add-In versions released to accompany a new PlanGuru core application (PlanGuru 2012 vs. PlanGuru 2011) are more likely to be significant, revolutionary to stay with my previous analogy.
The only situation where we might have to charge for the second scenario described above; Add-In versions that are released in conjunction with a new PlanGuru core product (again PlanGuru 2012 vs. PlanGuru 2011). That said we would only do this to reimburse ourselves for additional development costs incurred, thereby guarantying that we can continue to improve the product. If development costs are minor then we would prefer to not charge for these “major” updates at all. In the event that we did have to charge the amount would be consistent with our current “upgrade“ pricing model, which is to say that upgrading is about 30% of the original application cost. With that in mind the most we would charge is in the range of $50.
Hope this explanation was helpful.
